It was just over 10 years ago that Victoria Beckham was known as Posh Spice and wore only little black dresses as her role in the Spice Girls. She was often branded as the one with no talent who only pouted but since the Spice Girls Victoria Beckham has come out from behind the shadows of her famous footballer husband, David Beckham, to reveal herself, not only as a fashion icon but also as a designer. Her first collection was praised by top fashion critics a couple of seasons ago and since then her collections have gone from strength to strength. Her celebrity friends are often spotted at film premiers and show-biz events wearing her creations. The other day the American singer Nicole Scherzinger wore a Victoria Beckham dress from her spring/summer 2010 collection at the X Factor auditions in Manchester and if she and her A list friend continue to wear her designs she will continue to reinvent herself as a credible fashion designer.
Last night saw British celebrities put on their best designer dresses and head to the Westfield Shopping Centre in London as online retailer, Net-a-Porter, celebrated a decade of successful trading. The likes of Victoria Beckham and Sophie Ellis Bextor attended the celebrity party and they were joined by Net-a-Porters founder Natalie Massenet, who sold her share of the company for £50million in April this year. Net-a-Porter is currently rated 83rd on the in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, and since its launch in June 2000 it has become THE source of designer clothes online. The company is an online heaven of designer and couture clothes from designers such as Christian Dior and Chanel, and it now employs more than 500 people in New York City and London and claims to have over two million viewers per month and I’m sure it will continue to go from strength to strength.
